THIS IS THE NEW AND IMPROVED BOB AND JOHN SPOT MOTION

FOR THE MA EXPO 2012

I CHOSE TO TAKE THE IMAGES ON FRONT OF A BRICK WALL BECAUSE IT CREATED A BACKGROUND WITHOUT FUSS. THE BRICKS ALSO REPRESENT THE WORKING ETHIC OF MY GRANDDADS AND THE WORKING MAN LINK.

THE CLIP SHOWS THE CHANGE OF THE QUOTE FROM 'SNAZZY AT THE WEEKEND' TO 'YOUNG AT THE WEEKEND'. THE ACTION OF THE CHANGE DISPLAYS THE CONTROL THE WEARER HAS ON THE GARMENT CHANGE AND THE DESIGNERS CONTROL WITH THE MESSAGE.

They have landed!

Yes, the wonderfully exciting moment.....

The ZIPS ARE HERE....

In their colours of PINK, ORANGE, BLUE and GREEN.....

OH YES!

And here we have it...

Cut out at last! Very exciting!

Whilst cutting out the garment the technical bits went very well..I pinned the reworked pattern to the fabric to get a good shape and kept to the whale whilst cutting as much as I could. The knitted fabric was a little unruly at times because of its nature (not cos the spirit of BOB AND JOHN overtook it!, well maybe?!?!)

Obviously extremely excited too!

Next stop...neck trim, back panel and the long awaited funky zips from JONES & CO Yipppeee!

Whats my name again?

These rather exciting samples were creating using my own free hand writing on the KNIT CAD software and then knitted on the 7gg SHIMA SEIKI! Ohh very posh I know!

I think the unpredictability of the NAVY and STONEWASH is an excellent outcome that shows the worn, workwear look.......

The combination of the denimesque knit and the vibrant YELLOW adds a naive view to our brand name which could be interpreted as childish but I see it as humorous.

Fun and interesting results reworking the BOB AND JOHN logo for the back of the jumpers.....

Using the Shima Seiki power knitting machine software I programmed in the design by drawing free hand like you could in a photoshop or illustrator document....translating the name into stitches.....similar to a graph...its starting to get technical...anyway....

I feel the text has a hand written presence and innocence which could lend its hand to childrenswear but its how BOB AND JOHN apply it to menswear which will be the challenge.

I have been working in both 100& Cotton and 100& Lambswool from NOVETEX (very, very kindly sponsored)

The fantastic yarns gives it a crisp defined finish which once washed gives the comforting feel you want from a jumper....

This is the opposite side to the jacquard reverse technique....it creates the name backwards and in opposite colours...

This is the intended use for the BOB AND JOHN name...

Universal Works just Works!

Universal Works is greatly influenced by "working" and "outdoor clothes"....."not over designed" but "well cut" which here at Bob and John we feel is really important to let the quality of the design/fabric and yarn to speak for itself. 

They are true to their name being Universal....stocked all over the world in places such as Italy, Hong Kong, Germany and England.

Fisherman Waistcoat in Cotton Twill, Cable Knit Hat and Crew Neck Sweater in Wool Nylon Mix Soft Yarn

Hounstooth Crew Neck Sweater in Wool Navy and Ecru Hounstooth Norwegian Pattern

      Harris Tweed Bakers Jacket, Herringbone Harris Tweed Jacket with Shirting Check Scarf and Knitted Wool Texture Hat.

You can tell the workmen's influence - layers of waistcoats, with different fabrics such as tweed and knit. Rolled up trousers as if to keep them from off the workplace floor and to show off the wearers socks!

The model has a great attitude! The shots look natural and the one hand in the pocket is a common stance....

He is older than the traditional male clothes model which is a great refreshing look.

Expert Expo Thinking....

Starting to think about how Bob and John will display the sleeve madness...

I came across this window display by Lanvin in 2011. I like the way the limbs are free to hang and they are posistioned in a way that suggests connection with the body.
